Why Eddie and Vanessa Long are Dangerous to the Church and the Black Family

In our community, unless we count the shows “Basketball Wives” or the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” among others, we just don’t have much exposure to healthy family models. According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s 2011 world study, 72% of the black children living in the U.S. are being raised by single parents.

That's 1 in 4 (http://newsone.com/1195075/children-single-parents-u-s-american/). This statistic, being as impacting as it is, right or wrong, we tend to look to the institutional church for those images of what love between man and woman is supposed to look like.We also seek out assistance in raising our children.

So the ones that exalt themselves as some sort of standard, have a greater responsibility. Eddie and Vanessa Long have failed that responsibility ages ago, and I consider them dangerous as they continue to parade themselves as a public couple of “faith” in our community.

The Notorious E.D.D.I.E.

We at the Church Folk Revolution tire so much of Eddie Long’s shenanigans, that we just decided that there is no one worse which is why our annual, end of the year award ceremony is named for him: The Eddie Long Worst Pastor of the Year. But though we are weary WE FAINT NOT until this man is truly recognized as the menace that he is -- Yes, it is that serious. Why do we say these things? The simple scorecard of 1Timothy 3 is MORE than sufficient and we should all be able to go home, but nope the doors of the so-called church are still open at New Birth welcoming new zombies every week. So let’s look at the scorecard:

Though a few of the traits, such as being hospitable, were omitted due to no clear evidence, as you can see this is more than sufficient.

Vanessa’s Marriage Arrangement

File for divorce, then rescind. It was said that they were not even occupying the same residence. But somehow, Eddie convinced her to stay. Even though it is apparent that Eddie Long has predilections to sleep with young men, Vanessa acquiesced in the end. Until now, she did not speak. We would only have “sightings” of her attendance at a New Birth service. Recently, at New Birth, she finally spoke out. “Ladies back in December 2011, I was in the middle of a storm, and I got off the ship..... But then I realized it was important for you to see me as a woman capable of making good decisions and a woman capable of making bad decisions.”

Ok, and let me just say that I pulled this from Art Franklin’s (New Birth’s failed PR rep) approved YouTube Video. Let’s look at this statement.

FIRST of all, you would have us to believe that your husband’s actions were nothing more than a spiritual storm according to you with a smile and the blot of a tear. What the Fire? Nooooooooooooo! Your husband wasn’t being persecuted or unjustly accused causing the Titanic to sink. Your husband was involved in horrific CRIMES. And just because the State of Georgia indicates he could not be arrested due to the ages of the boys in question, that does not mean your husband is not a predator.

Look at the scorecard displayed above and consider he took church money to fund his sexual fantasies and fetishes of young men whom he had plenty of access to through your church’s Longfellow’s program. Jamal Parris testified that he was to be naked in the presence of your husband. That he went through a private “covenant” ceremony with him. Though he many not have touched them until they were 16 or 17, they joined Longfellow’s much younger at 14.

Do you know what this means woman? Your husband was oogling them back then and grooming them waiting for them to ripen according to the law. That is what happened. And perhaps other people knew and you didn’t. The accountants may have known that were issuing the checks. Releasing money to buy the boys cars. Maybe the secretary who, when his door was closed, knew not to disturb him even though it was known he was not alone. And you were the odd woman out. Now you are back, speaking to women saying that you were in a “Storm” and it was important for women to see you this way.

Have I painted enough of a picture here? Vanessa Long, you are a danger to church society and to the black family. No church should have to go through that and still endure reproach and written off as Ichabod BECAUSE OF YOUR HUSBAND’S PRIDE! You, honeychild, have now become a co-conspirator because you will NEVER be able to explain you and your church’s lack of ethics. Furthermore, as a black woman, a wife, I dont want you anywhere near other women so your poisonous, so-called, testimony can infect them. No woman should be encouraged to stay with a man that sleeps with men and attracted to young men.

If nothing else, DISEASE and the health of that woman should be considered. Secondly, I suspect there are financial implications involved here. Maybe there is not life after the pimp preacher. How will you support yourself? Where will you go? What will become of your children? But if you cannot answer any of these questions by your faith, then your whole message then becomes fraudulent and your return nothing more than a scam to keep members at your church. Women are the main constiuency of any church and without their support, New Birth would certainly not survive. You and your husband know this Vanessa Long, and yet you come before the people with this “Stand by Your Man” message because you needed us to see you made a bad decision.

WHAT ABOUT THE DECISIONS YOUR HUSBAND MADE????!!!!!!! No Vanessa, this is dangerous teaching and your example is poisonous to

● Young women who aspire to marry one day

● Current wives who also have homosexual husbands

● Young men in the church who can now see they can have their cake and eat it too. “She wont leave me.”

● Current husbands who mistreat their wives with their infidelities (whatever their sexual orientation). You have now legitimized this crowd.

I suppose I can write about this forever. But Ms. Justice will stop here. I hope I have laid out my case. If you need to verify any of the information I recalled here, please search and see that I do not write out of turn. Again I say, this couple is dangerous to the church and the black family. Will someone please wake up?

Ethics in the church DO matter. And women should not be objects or subject to mistreatment by staying with their husband and feigning victorious or what you love to call “Kingdom” living.
