Bishop Eddie Long Is Now Featured On The Cover Of Gospel Today Magazine - Welcome To Spin City

Bishop Eddie Long was a no show at Saturday’s Stand Campaign (a local annual religious rally held in Atlanta) but his likeliness will still make an international appearance on the Cover of Gospel Today Magazine.

Tearing a page directly from the spin strategies employed by Hollywood celebrities, Bishop Eddie Long has reconnected with the owners of powerful media influences in order to resuscitate his reputation. Gospel Today prides its self in publicizing the latest scoop on all of the big names in gospel music and church leadership, but critics of the magazine have also charged the publication with aiding and abetting the exploitive Prosperity Gospel.

Gospel Today Feature With Bishop Eddie Long

Gospel Today Magazine is standing behind its decision to feature Bishop Eddie Long on the cover the magazine for the month of December. Many have called the featured cover an attempt to spin the scandal surrounding Bishop Eddie Long and present him on a more positive light.

The Preacher Bureau of Investigations (www.PimpPreacher.com) says the bulk of the criticism is due to the fact the Bishop Eddie Long sits on the Board of Advisors for Gospel Today and has been very instrumental in the marketing success of the gospel magazine.

Gospel Today released a statement defending their position to feature Bishop Eddie long amid criticism that the print and online publication is in fact a public relations tool for rich and famous Pastors.

“The Word of God teaches us that God is love; and far too many times we have been unbalanced and unloving—all in the name of a God who not only loves, but loves unconditionally and restores sinners—us included. Whether Bishop Long is guilty or not; whether the young men are guilty or not, the BODY OF CHRIST must handle this situation according to the Word of God! The mainstream press has painted a hideous picture; some have even called for Bishop Long’s resignation! They’re not even members!!

Gospel Today did not explore the legalities or the issues; we presented a biblical perspective—something no other outlet gave.”

According to the publications own website Bishop Eddie Long is in fact the Chairman of the Board of Advisors for Gospel Today. Bishop Eddie Long is joined on the Board of Advisors by Bishop T.D Jakes, and Pastor Paula White.

We could not make this stuff up even if we wanted too, see for yourself.

The outcry of complaints about Bishop Eddie Long cover feature is getting louder as many question the timing and the motives of the magazine.

"I don’t think he belongs on your cover. In my mind you have taken a position. Have you thought about telling the victims stories? That would be the only fair and fitting thing to do as a responsible new source.

I believe these young men. I do not believe they would put themselves out here like this and be lying. That being said I think it’s our job as Christians to pray for everyone involved that God show mercy and grace upon everyone and we as a Christian community learn something from this entire situation" says Ayeesha Lane in a post on the Gospel Today's website.
